Part-Timers Sports Podcast: Episode 23: What Are We Celebrating for Again?

Recorded Thursday September 25, 2014

On #BUCTOBER, Derek Jeter’s last stand, and some NFL odds & ends.

Sidney Crosby is a whiner and diver and…wait, what?

I mean, isn’t that what we’re supposed to think?

Crosby whines and dives his way to unlimited Pittsburgh power plays and 100-point seasons.

It’s what everyone who isn’t a Penguins fan wants you to believe.

Maybe when he was a 19-year-old kid, but it’s a false narrative, now, and should be just as dead as the “what’s-wrong-with-Crosby-he-hasn’t-scored-a-goal-in-13-playoff-games” one he put to rest in Game 3.

Because a guy who missed parts of two seasons due to concussion and neck issues being crosschecked in the head/neck area by a New York Ranger (who has had his own concussion issues) doesn’t get right back up when he’s crosschecked in the head/neck area only to be slashed in the head/neck area (by the same Ranger) while bullying his way to the net for a scoring opportunity.

He lays there trying to buy a penalty while the MSG faithful rain a chorus of boos on him, because they think he’s whining and diving.

What you saw in that video, though?

You should take note…because that’s what the best goddamned hockey player in the world does.
